The projects
24 children are in the age group 2-5 years and the rest are between 6 -12 years. The funds support breakfast for these 32 children for a period of 8 months. Database sheets with age, height, weight and existing medical problems have been made for each child. 8 months of continuous nutritional input should be reflected in their health at the end of the project.
Breakfast Project for Mouse Eating Community in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
The Mushahar, which means basically, means the community who depends totally on the mouse, is a community that lacks all modern facilities such as water or electricity. They are illiterate and there is no schooling for the children. Ever since the forest guards and other officials shamelessly have started collecting money from the people for hunting mice, they have faced devastating starvation. The Breakfast Project makes sure that the children of the community receive at least one proper meal a day.
Today, working with the People’s Vigilance Committee on Human Rights in Varanasi, ten starvation struck villages will be guaranteed food to combat starvation. Our aim is to eradicate starvation from these ten villages.
Detailed information of the ten villages:

Shelter, food and security for homeless children in New Delhi
The homeless children in New Delhi sleep under the sky, on the pavement, in rickshaws, on railway platforms, in water pipes and even trees. They are homeless, without the protection of a shelter, constantly exposed to police extortion and brutality and without any medical relief or social security. The children are constantly exposed to harassment and sexual abuse on the streets. Young girl deal with the highest degrees of violence and abuse. By providing shelter, food, healthcare (including mental health), and education this project aims to break the evil cycle that these street children face.
Empowering girls in Punjab
In 2008 a fund for girls in Punjab will be initiated. Punjab is a district in northern India that is particularly bad for girls. The focus will be to educate at least 500 girls through scholarships for education and livelihood. The goal is to strengthen women so that they dare to say no to abortion of their own daughters. Our slogan is "with education comes equality". The fundraising for this voluntary initiative has already started.
Every child has to the right to play, food and education.
More than 6,000 Indian children under the age of five die everyday due to malnourishment or lack of basic micronutrients.
The projects of the initiative are always located in difficult to reach areas where parents cry and admit: “We beat our hungry children to sleep”.
The UN Special Rapporteur on Right to Food, Jean Ziegler left all diplomatic formulations behind when he last year visited the starvation areas in India and heard the devastating stories of the starving families. Afterwards Ziegler had only one word to say ”assassination”. This is not starvation this is murder.
We are happy that the Indian media is actively reporting about our work, creating awareness and putting pressure on the Indian government to take responsibility.
Breakfast for tribal children in Wayanad district, Kerala
The children belong to the Kattunaika community in the remote settlements of Kolpara and Meppadi. These tribals are a nomadic community who have traditionally depended on the dwindling resources of the forest for sustenance. Children particularly suffer from malnutrition and therefore are prone to diseases. 32 children from these two settlements (22 from Kolpara and 10 Meppadi) are being provided daily breakfast since July 2006. The objective was to cover all the children from a single community and not to make any of the children feel excluded.
